The History and Services of Tilev Design

Tilev Design is a creative partnership established by the husband and wife team of Heather and Todd Tilev. With a degree in Interior Environmental Design and a background in Architecture, the firm was originally founded in 2001 by Heather Tilev after working for a NYC based Architecture firm as senior designer for 7 years. Heather has focused on residential interiors since 1994 while Todd with a degree in Fine Arts, focused on design in the commercial industry working on award winning designs at 3-Form. In 2009 the couple pulled together all of their experience and resources to join forces.

“Working together is something we have always wanted to do. It is very natural for us, it is how we met, in art school; spending countless hours together in design studios, discussing art, design and bouncing ideas off of each other. It is such a great way to push each other to the next level.”

Tilev Design is a full-service interior design firm specializing in apartment combinations, brownstone renovations as well as smaller scale kitchen and bathroom design. The firm specializes in designing interior spaces that are uniquely individual to each of their clients. The firm is exceptional at guiding each client through the design process, telling your personal story and representing your personal style while focusing on sophisticated and functional design.

Tilev Design often works as a design-build firm, collaborating with architects, engineers and construction crews. The firm provides personalized dedication to see each project from planning and construction to installing light fixtures and placing furniture and artwork. The advantage of a design-build team is that the design details are accounted for from the very beginning. Specific walls are lit properly for artwork. The framing around windows can be customized so the window treatments don’t close out natural light. Windows and doors are located to provide adequate spacing for furniture and flow.

Another advantage of working with Tilev Design is the strong perspective you receive from both a female and male’s point of view. When you add experience of parenting to the mix, you have all of your angles covered. “It is second nature for us to work with families living in the city. We love beautiful furniture and fabrics and valuable pieces, but when you have little ones running around you have to figure out a way to include these things while making it functional for a family, we have a lot of tricks up our sleeves, since we refuse to live without design ourselves.”

You can find the New York based design Team working from their loft Studio in DUMBO Brooklyn. DUMBO is one of New York’s vibrant design neighborhoods. The couple is inspired daily by living and working among other local established artisans.
